Good summary of some of the powerful pieces of Python that are easy to overlook if you’re used to other, let’s say “more verbose”, languages. I’ve been coding in Python for close to three years, and there was stuff I learned here (dict.setdefault: where have you been all my life?)
Good summary of why Jabber is awesome and the future of IM. I have to admit, I didn’t “get it” until I installed my own XMPP server and was able to hack up a bot in Python with about 20 lines of code.
Just picked this up, and a quick skim shows it’s something a bit special: Learn good coding practices by reading experts choice of “the most beautiful code they’ve seen”, with plenty of commentary. I’m halfway tempted to take a day off next week and just sit and read this all day.
Excellently skeptical article on companies’ presence in Second Life. “You might wonder what Coke is doing in such a place. “It had a lot to do with hype,” admits Michael Donnelly.”
Forget Moo Cards… *these* will be the essential wicked-classy cards to hand out at future Web Innovator Groups.
Massively-multiplayer word association game. The Flash graphs are particularly gorgeous.
Fun little collaborative video project from GMail.
“Each of these guys is like a character, and each one has their thing — Papi’s beard, [Dustin] Pedroia’s sideburns, [Mike] Lowell’s little mustache,” says LMontro, sipping lemonade before a recent game. “The Yankees are all shaved and boring.”
Answering the question on many people’s minds… If you were blind and tried to make a clay bust of Lionel Richie (like in that 80’s mawk-fest video for Hello), how would it turn out?
Cool solution to the problem of automatically download bank statements from the gazillion different financial institutions out there: Easily scripting Firefox to download them for you. Well played, Wesabe. Well played.
The inevitable first iPhone security flaw announcement. Notable for how frankly *non* sensationalist it is.
No. 38 making a rehab start at the Red Sox's AAA team.
Frankly, it boggles my mind that coffee milk was made the official Rhode Island state drink over this delicious concoction.
Best use of Google Maps yet?
I want a hippo for a pet! I’m sure Bacon and Clyde wouldn’t mind.
Oh lordy — Woot launch a Different-T-Shirt-Every-Day shop. My credit card quakes in fear.
