Interesting piece on the creation of the Xbox 360 achievements system.
Setting up the Facebook app on Xbox Live.
Rather than the gorgeous OAuth flow used by the Netflix app for the last year (The Xbox displays a six-digit number, you visit the Netflix website on your PC, log-in and enter that number, Tada, everything's linked), the Facebook, Twitter and last.fm apps all require you to fiddle around, entering email addresses and passwords on an on-screen keyboard.
Oh, and remember not to change your password on those services, because you'll need to go through the dance again.
(Particularly like this: "If you can't enter the characters you need here, change your passwords on www.facebook.com")
My Xbox gamertagusernamethingummy is the unimaginative RodBegbie if you want to befriendify me. (At least until I overcome my aversion to paying Microsoft TEN! FUCKING! DOLLARS! to change it)
SPOILER, natch. Internet theorising about a non-obvious subtext to Braid’s story. If Portal was a video-game short-story, is Braid a video-game poem?
Braid, the stonking painty platformy puzzley game released on XBox live this week, has an official walkthrough. Make sure and read the second page of it. Inspired!
XBox 360 adds native DiVX playback. Between this, Rock Band and Space Giraffe, the XBox 360 is slowly tipping from “If someone gave me a free one, I’d sell it on eBay” (where the PS3 still lives) to “Hmmm… If I could pick up a cheap one….”
I’m not yet at a stage where I care enough to work out what the differences between all the different models are, though. Perfect example of the Paradox of Choice, there.
Fun rant predicting an impending crash. “We’ve now advanced from realistic 3D to slightly prettier 3D and… even slightlier prettier 3D with slightly better reflection effects and slightly better animated water ripples and - oh, look! This game has the most realistic fog yet!”
